The idea of driving through Texas with 2 children does not thrill me, yet this year for Thanksgiving, that is exactly what we found ourselves doing. My baby bro was having his Air Force graduation the day after Thanksgiving, and I really wanted to be there- I think he is quite the kid- Anyway, when my parents decided they were going, we asked if we could hitch a ride and help with the cost of the gas (at that time it
was still $3 something).
was still $3 something). As an added little "side" trip that my husband is well know for, we asked if they would mind driving 4 hours out of their way to Tyler, Texas so that we could visit Nick's 89 year old Grandma that we haven't seen in 3 years. I am sure they weren't SUPER thrilled to drive the extra mileage, but they were willing to do it, and never once complained - they got to eat a yummy Thanksgiving Dinner with Grandma instead of Denny's - I think they thought it was worth it! We left on Tuesday, got to
Grandmas Wednesday night, had Thanksgiving lunch and then left for San Antonio on Thursday. Got to San Antonio Thursday night, woke up and had to be on base by 7am Friday morning (yeah, not too happy about the 7am thing....don't these guys know I need wayyyyy more sleep after 3 days in a car with my children?) , we had to be "briefed" about what was expected of us and my brother on the base - and then we went to the Gradutation.

How completely awesome and moving the graduation was. I couldn't help but tear up as they played several patriotic songs and marched on this huge field! It was such an amazing thing to see my brother in his
sharp Dress Blues marching past us leading his line. It made me sooooo proud that he was my brother and that he has chosen to serve our Country! What an amazing person he has become- and the best part is that he explained to me that he is going to be the Crew Chief of an F-15, which means that anything done to the plane is his responsibility, he is in charge of the plane, and that his NAME gets to go on the plane with the pilots- how freaking cool is that?????? Way to go Bro!!!

How awesome is that?! Glad you guys made the trip. It sounds like a great time! I love this time of year when there are extra gatherings and big doses of cousins! We are loving it!
My little brother was a crew chief for F-16s when he was in the Navy. He got stationed in Japan. but now that he's out, he got a job with a contracting company and is in Kuwait working on jets again. but making like 85k a year! He missed the jets so it's a good opportunity all around for him.
